The set of granular asperities that characterise the road surface: these affect surface water drainage, rolling noise and grip.

Indicates the depth of the rut: takes the form of a longitudinal depression in the area affected by the wheel tracks.

PAVEMENT CONDITIONS

PCI

Using sophisticated LCMS (Laser Crack Measurement System) laser cameras, surface defects are detected and 3D profiles of the pavement collected. This process is automatic, fast, objective and scientific, with no impact on regular vehicle traffic.

PCI parameter

To calculate the PCI – Pavement Condition Index as many as 19 distinct types of deterioration are identified on the basis of type, extent and severity using data collected with high-performance machines.

The ASTM D6433-11 standard defines PCI as:

"a measure of the present condition of the pavement based on the distress observed on the surface of the pavement, which also indicates the structural integrity and surface operational condition. The PCI cannot measure structural capacity nor does it provide direct measurement of skid resistance or roughness. The PCI ranges from 0 to 100 with 0 being the worst possible condition and 100 being the best possible condition".
